In February, 1970, we were given our first Brittany, Sue. She lived
with us and accompanied us on our many moves during our careers as classroom
teachers. We lost her at the age of 15 to complications of old age. In the
meantime, we rescued another Brit named Sally who lived with us for 5 years.
When we moved to Paris, Texas, in 1982 and after losing Sue, we decided to begin
researching the breed and to find quality Brits for hunting and pets. We began our
kennel with a Brit appropriately named Bar Lo's Rocky Start and a sweetheart named
Bar Lo's Dolly Ann. We tried to produce Brittanies which would be at home on the
couch or in bed with the kids as well as in the field with Dad in the fall. We now
have our fourth generation Britttany named Harlequin.
In 1991, we became interested in conformation competition and begin showing
our own dogs. As we learned more, we began looking for a show-quality Brittany.
In our search, we met Nancy Lamm from Booneville, Arkansas, who had a female named
Ashley for sale. We watched the video and visited on the phone. In November,
1995, we made a trip to Booneville to visit with Nancy and see Ashley. It was
love-at-first sight. Triwyn's Shadow Fax (Ashley) made the move to Paris, Texas
and we began to really learn about the AKC show ring. Between my handling mistakes
and Ashley's misadventures with getting her ear injured, it took a while to
complete her championship.
On Halloween, Oct. 31, 1997, Nancy Lamm handled Ashley to her last major (4
points over specials) in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I handled her to 12 of the 19
points
she
earned on the way to finishing.
She came home and enjoyed a much-needed vacation. On March 28, 1998, Ashley
presented me with my first litter produced by my own champion: one orange male, one
orange female, and three liver females. My goal now is to finish my first Bred-by
champion. I kept the orange/white male, Justin, and one of the liver/white females,
Annie.
Justin and Annie have been shown on a limited basis since July, 1999. Justin
(Bar Lo's The Joke's On You) has earned 3 Best of Breeds along with fourth place
in the Bred-by-Exhibitor class at the American Brittany National's Show at
Fort Smith, Arkansas, in November, 1999. Annie (Bar Lo's Just the Fax) has finally
decided to behave in the showring and has earned 2 reserves out of the
Bred-by-Exhibitor classes. We will be attending the Central Futurity in March, 2000
along with continuing our limited showing.
In October, 1999, two more Brittanies joined our family. They are Gambler
and Lillie (brother and sister) sired by Jordean Aces High. They will begin their
show careers in March, 2000, at the Indian Nations Brittany Speciality.
On March 8, 2000, Ashley presented us with 6 more beautiful babies sired by
AKC Ch Embi's Show-Gun Rambler (Butchie).
